GENERAL SUMMARY
Integrates studies of geological and geophysical data for regional synthesis to support the acquisition and drilling of oil and gas prospects in the Gulf of Mexico by performing the following duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Evaluates hydrocarbon reserves in proven and prospective fields.
* Evaluates geological data for evaluation of lease sale, farm-in and farm-out opportunities.
* Screens and evaluates externally generated oil and gas prospects
* Constructs regional stratigraphic and structural models incorporated into cross-sections, using well logs and seismic data.
* Generates maps of various parameters, detailing structure, net sand, net pay thickness, and petrophysical parameters.
* Determines the petrophysical characteristics of well logs.
* An understanding of use and application of Sequence Stratigraphy to the exploration effort
* Mange the Exploration Portfolio updating and changing as needed
* Understand and apply exploration risk analysis principals
* Apply computer mapping techniques through the use of various geologic software packages
* Must abide by all QHSE policies and guidelines
* Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ten years related experience with at least 5 years in the deep water Gulf of Mexico
Be familiar with sources of geological information and how to obtain the data needed to carry out the work
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Industry knowledge of exploration and development practices.
Ability to interpret well logs; to visualize and think in two and three-dimensional space; to self-motivate and be a self-starter.
Written and verbal fluency in English
EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Bachelor?s degree (B.S.) in Geology, or equivalent (M.S. preferred)
