GENERAL SUMMARY
Analysis of geophysical and geological data to locate gas and oil deposits by performing the following duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Studies and interprets 2-and 3-dimentionial seismic data and geological data to generate drillable oil and gas prospects.
* Evaluates seismic data for lease sales, farm-ins, farm-outs, and appraisal projects.
* Screens and evaluates externally generated oil and gas prospects and makes recommendations concerning potential opportunities.
* Evaluates geophysical data, and constructs surface and subsurface maps and geological cross-sections, using well logs and seismic data.
* Makes presentations of farm-outs to other oil and gas companies.
* Must abide by all QHSE policies and guidelines
* Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer with the following software: Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Lotus Notes, OWL database, and other proprietary software.
Written and verbal fluency in English
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to apply principles of structural geology and stratigraphy to exploration projects. A working knowledge of seismic stratigraphy and regional concepts.
Ability to visualize and think in 3-dimentional space; to recognize potential traps for hydrocarbons; to interpret well logs; to self-motivate and be a self-starter.
Proficiency with seismic interpretation workstations; Synthetic Seismogram Generation (GDC), AVO Interpretation program.
General knowledge of seismic data acquisition and processing.
Ability to effectively access information from the Internet.
Ten years related experience and/or training with at least 5 years in the deep water Gulf of Mexico.
EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Geophysics or Geology.

GENERAL SUMMARY
To conduct reservoir engineering studies, to manage the reservoir exploitation and operation, to perform economic evaluation of exploratory, development and producing oil and gas fields by performing the duties below.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Compute company’s reserves estimates under the SEC and SPE criteria.
* Perform reservoir engineering simulation , material balance, and decline curve analysis studies and propose alternatives for oil and gas field development.
* Design, evaluate, recommend and implement optimal reservoir production/injection plans.
* Evaluate partner’s proposals for reservoir development and operation and recommend actions to the management.
* Evaluate well logs.
* Design and interpret well tests and pressure gradient data.
* Evaluate core data to determine rock properties.
* Interpret PVT data analysis.
* Monitor production, drilling and completion operations.
* Propose completion and work over interventions in wells.
* Maintain geologic, reservoir and production database.
* Perform economic analysis for exploration, development and production projects.
* Coordinate the preparation of the annual E&P budget and to monitor budget expenditures.
* Maintain E&P Portfolio of future investments opportunities including production reserve, economic and risk evaluations.
* Prepare and make technical presentations based on PowerPoint slides
* Must abide by all QHSE policies and guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ten to fifteen years of experience in the above Reservoir Engineering activities plus:
Ability to work with little or no supervision and within a team; sharing activities with other professionals, participating on peer reviews, reviewing tasks performed by others, giving and accepting feedback.
Skills in training new engineers and sharing knowledge is fundamental.
Knowledge of reservoir and oilfield programs and databases
Knowledge of onshore and offshore development options, with main focus on GoM operations
Basic knowledge of U.S. Regulatory Agencies demands.
Knowledge of risk analysis techniques.
In depth experience in Reservoir Simulation. Extensive experience with at least one of these simulators: Eclipse, VIP, CMG (Black Oil and compositional)> extensive experience with Petresl (reservoir engineering modulus).
In depth experience with fluid characterization via Equation of State.
Written and verbal fluency in English. Portuguese and Spanish (desirable)
Ability to operate

The position will work closely with our GIS Specialist to produce geo-referenced data-sets and imagery for the group and the scientific community as a whole.
Requirements: B.S. Degree in Geodesy, Geophysics, or an appropriate aspect of engineering in a related field and four years of experience or a MS degree and two years of experience required. Must be able to select and operate appropriate GPS receivers for the different programs that the group runs or takes part in. Must be able to work with post-processing software such as Waypoint to operate on Differential GPS data. Knowledge of different methods of processing GPS data under different conditions (such as long base-lines) would be beneficial. Experience of working with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU’s) and mixing data sets from GPS receivers and IMU’s would be advantageous. Must be able to use ArcGIS. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English are required.

2011 Summer Internship for Minorities in the Geosciences - UNAVCO - Boulder, Colorado
RESESS is an undergraduate summer internship program in the Earth sciences based in Boulder, Colorado, that is dedicated to increasing diversity in the geosciences.
The goal of the RESESS Internship program is to increase the number of students from minority groups that are underrepresented in the geosciences relative to their proportions in the general population.
RESESS encourages applications from individuals who are members of a group that is historically underrepresented in the Earth sciences, including students who are Black or African American, American Indian or Native Pacific Islanders, Hispanic or Latinos, and others.
We introduce students to scientific research, prepare students for graduate school, and provide support and encouragement as students build skills and confidence. We provide students with an authentic research experience and encourage them to consider graduate school with an eye to a career in science, whether that is in research, teaching, or industry. Students can participate for up to three years, depending on when they enter the program.
Where: Boulder, Colorado.
When: May 24 - August 6, 2011.

In the RESESS Internship Program, we use three strategies to help students succeed: research, mentoring, and community.
Research:
Student interns get to work closely with a geoscience expert throughout the summer on a research project. We try to match the interests of the student with a relevant project. The student might work at the University of Colorado at Boulder, at the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, CO, or at UNAVCO in Boulder. In their second or third summer, interns can work elsewhere in the U.S. with a research group at another university, government lab or at an oil company. We currently have a partnership with one major oil company that makes it possible for 2nd and 3rd year interns to do their internship in the industry.
Potential topics of interest include:
earthquakes & seismology
geophysics (including plate tectonics and more)
hydrology and water quality
petroleum geology
glaciers
volcanoes
sedimentology
geomorphology
Quaternary geology
We also encourage students to consider and suggest projects based in their community.

A strong sense of group and new friendships are developed during the first days of the program, and throughout the summer. One day per week is reserved for the Writing Class and RESESS group activities such as geology field trips or workshops. Each incoming intern also has a community mentor and a peer mentor to help enrich their experience.

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions (3) - Discipline-Based Science Education Research - The University of Maine
Three Full-Time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions in Discipline-Based Science Education Research
The University of Maine invites applications for three full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in discipline-based education research. The positions will be in the fields of (1) Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics, (2) Biology, Earth Sciences, or Marine Sciences, and (3) Science Education.
These positions were created through the Maine Physical Sciences Partnership (PSP) Project, under a grant to the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education to target the teaching and learning of science in grades 6-9 as well as the preparation of science teachers at the University of Maine. By the time of appointment, the candidate must have an earned doctorate in the discipline, in discipline-based education research, or in a closely related field; strong experience in discipline-based education research; and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
The new faculty member will be expected to (1) engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities that contribute to discipline-based education research, (2) teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, (3) supervise graduate and undergraduate research, (4) develop an externally-funded research program, (5) serve as a student advisor, and (6) participate in leadership for collaborative efforts in STEM-education with colleagues in the home department, the Maine RiSE Center, the University, and other professional communities. The positions are academic year appointment with preferred starting date no later than September 1, 2011. The University of Maine invites applications for three full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in discipline-based education research. Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctorate in geology or a related geoscience field by the time of hire and a demonstrated record of research as indicated by dissertation research or peer-reviewed publications. Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated in written application materials; commitment to public service; potential for, or established record of publications; and ability to attract funding are essential. Doctoral research must include one or more of the following disciplines: economic geology, structural geology, igneous petrology, geochemistry, exploration geophysics, and hydrogeology.

Position Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and to collaborate with other NBMG staff, faculty in the UNR Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering, the UNLV Department of Geoscience, and others in developing funded projects and conducting research. The successful candidate will be asked to communicate effectively with the public and community leaders regarding the geology of Nevada and its mineral and energy resources. Although teaching and supervision of graduate students are not requirements of the position, the successful candidate will be encouraged to work with the Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering to do so and help build the academic reputation of UNR.
A successful candidate who will use and expand the analytical geochemistry facilities at UNR in her or his research will be given the opportunity to supervise a State-funded, senior NBMG technician assigned to support analytical geochemistry facilities (approximately 40% of the technician’s time) and the candidate’s research (approximately 60%).
Salary and Date of Appointment
The position will be a tenure-track faculty appointment with an academic-year base salary that is competitive with other research universities. Sufficient State of Nevada funds are available to cover the salary at the entry level for an assistant professor. The University of Nevada, Reno seeks applicants with interests in initiating and carrying out innovative research that can be applied to a wide variety of geologic topics of societal relevance in Nevada, including hazards, geological engineering, environmental geology, and water, mineral, and energy resources. Nevada is one of the most exciting regions in the world to do research in the geosciences. Opportunities abound for research on earthquake, flood, and ground-stability hazards; water flow in fractured rocks as related to potable groundwater,
geothermal systems, and mineral deposits; and detailed geologic mapping in support of fundamental understanding of Nevada’s geological history and 3D framework.

A portable spectrometer and portable XRF analyzer are available for mineralogical and geochemical mapping and sampling in the field. Geophysical equipment includes portable seismometers, a 48-channel reflection-refraction recording system, borehole logging systems, geodetic GPS instruments, gravimeters, total-field magnetometers, and a fully equipped paleomagnetic laboratory.
UNR has strong reputations in economic geology, geothermal resources, chemistry, geodesy, seismology, neotectonics, remote sensing, hydrogeology, and many other fields. NBMG works closely with industry, including the mining, geothermal, and geotechnical industries that are active in Nevada. NBMG is a supporter of UNR's Ralph J. Roberts Center for Research in Economic Geology and works closely with its director and graduate students on projects.
NBMG supports and benefits from UNR’s Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy. The

RESEARCH ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (tenure track) Geosciences
The University of Nevada, Reno seeks applicants with interests in initiating and carrying out innovative research that can be applied to a wide variety of geologic topics of societal relevance in Nevada, including hazards, geological engineering, environmental geology, and water, mineral, and energy resources. Nevada is one of the most exciting regions in the world to do research in the geosciences. Opportunities abound for research on earthquake, flood, and ground-stability hazards; water flow in fractured rocks as related to potable groundwater,
geothermal systems, and mineral deposits; and detailed geologic mapping in support of fundamental understanding of Nevada’s geological history and 3D framework.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctorate in geology or a related geoscience field and a demonstrated record of research as indicated by dissertation or peer-reviewed publications. We seek candidates with skills in state-of-the-art techniques in any one of the following areas:. Quaternary geology, geomorphology, and neotectonics (incorporating geologic mapping in applications related to hazards, engineering geology, or environmental geology) . Hydrogeology, particularly involving modeling of fluid flow in fractured rocks utilizing information from detailed geologic mapping, geophysical observations, and drill-hole data . 3D modeling that integrates geophysical and geological observations and interpretations (from a background in either structural geology or geophysics, but with a clear understanding of both).
Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated in written application materials; potential for or an established record of publications; and ability to attract funding are essential.
