Post-Doctoral Research Scientist or Project Associate Research Scientist: Open Rank; Title pending education and experience.
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist or a Project Associate Research Scientist: Open Rank.
Requirements: a Ph.D. degree in relevant scientific discipline (recent for the postdoctoral applicant) is required for both these research positions. Demonstrated relevant expertise and record of scientific publications is also required to apply for the Project Associate Research Scientist position.
The candidate will participate in a Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative-funded study of the influence of natural oil and gas seeps on the pelagic ecosystem of the Gulf of Mexico. The position will include field work in the Gulf of Mexico, laboratory analyses of environmental samples, and synthesis of large environmental data sets. Applicants should have a strong foundation in marine biology/oceanography and/or environmental science. Applicants with experience in microbial grazing processes and a strong numerical background or interest in applications of remote sensing data are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be willing and capable of participating in oceanographic cruises. Fieldwork will begin in May 2012 and applicants must be able to participate at that time. This position will be based at the Lamont campus in Rockland County, NY, near New York City. The position is a full-time 1-year appointment with the expectation of continuation for up to 3 years, as well as further growth depending on progress and availability of funding.
