Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Geophysics, Northern Arizona University

The School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor in Geophysics for August 2012. The successful candidate will teach senior and graduate courses in Geophysics and other classes as needed, conduct a successful sponsored research program in Geophysics, and support the Earth and Planetary Systems emphasis area of the new Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability PhD program. Minimum qualification is an earned PhD in Geophysics; OR, an earned PhD in related area with dissertation-related research in geophysics, conferred by start date.

Preferred qualifications include: (1) Track record of successful research in Geophysics or related discipline, including securing funding and publishing, (2) Demonstrated potential for developing a successful research program in Geophysics that complements existing strengths within the School, (3) Potential to strengthen collaborations within the Earth and Planetary Science emphasis area of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program, (4) Demonstrated ability to teach existing graduate and undergraduate courses in Geophysics, including GLG470, GLG560, GLG565, (5) Evidence of teaching effectiveness, (6) Knowledge and experience with field-based geophysics, and demonstrated ability to incorporate field-based geophysics in teaching, (7) Knowledge and experience with the use and analysis of geospatial tools and demonstrated ability to incorporate geospatial tools in teaching, and (8) Commitment to working with a diverse population.

Faculty in SESES are committed to teaching and research excellence and providing positive educational experiences in the classroom, field, and laboratory. Bachelor and Master of Science and PhD degrees are offered. The new school and PhD program provide ample opportunities to create new collaborations and interdisciplinary research programs.
