Assistant Professor Quaternary Geochronology — University of Cincinnati

Assistant Professor Quaternary Geochronology — University of Cincinnati
The Department of Geology seeks a geoscientist for a tenure-track position in Quaternary geochronology. Such an individual’s research and teaching might be centered on one or more of the following: (1) uranium series methods for isotopic dating and determining rates of surface processes; (2) low-temperature helium, argon, and/or fission track thermochronometers for quantifying rates of surface and recent tectonic processes as they relate to climate variation and landscape evolution; (3) amino acid racemization of paleobiological and archaeological materials; and (4) radiocarbon dating. The UC Department of Geology has a new multi-disciplinary research and teaching group focused on the geology, paleontology, paleoclimatology, anthropology, ecology, and landscape evolution of the recent geologic past; a stable isotope and organic biogeochemistry group centered on the global cycling, interactions, and linkages among Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, biosphere, and lithosphere; and state-of-the-art cosmogenic and OSL laboratories. The successful candidate will be expected to generate external funding as part of his/her research program, mentor both undergraduate and graduate students, and offer undergraduate and graduate courses of interest to students in the Departments of Geology, Anthropology, and Geography to promote interdisciplinary interactions in the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences. We encourage applicants who integrate significant field-based research with laboratory work.
Only online applications will be considered. Applicants should apply online at https://www.jobsatuc.com (search for Position #: XXXXXX) submitting a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a summary of research interests (2-3 pages) and teaching philosophy (1 page), contact details for three references, and should have a PhD degree by July 31, 2012.
