The GT will collect, edit and process digital data from various sources to produce a variety of NGA products that meet internal and external customer requirements. Environmental Geobiology Faculty Position: Kansas State University
The Department of Geology at Kansas State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Environmental Geobiology, at the rank of Assistant Professor. Compensation is based on the nine-month academic year, although two months summer salary may be negotiated for up to two years. A competitive startup package is available. The position will start no later than August 2012 and may begin earlier if mutually agreeable.
Research Area: A strong background and continued interest in geological processes is required. Preference will be given to candidates with interests in mineral/microbe interaction, microbe/groundwater interactions, bioweathering, and microbial geochemistry. Experience in applying both field-based studies and laboratory bioanalytical procedures to problems in geologic environments is highly desirable. Strong interest in initiating or contributing to interdisciplinary research programs is essential.
Research Expectations: Candidates must have a strong background (at least one degree) in geology or a closely related field, such as geobiology/geomicrobiology, and must have the Ph.D. in hand by the beginning of employment. Some pertinent postdoctoral experience would be desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program that will complement the research of other faculty members in geology and in related fields across the university. Collaborations with faculty at Kansas State University and other universities and institutions are encouraged.
Other Expectations: Kansas State University is a Land Grant institution, and as such, has a strong teaching mission. Candidates must have excellent teaching skills and a dedication to working with undergraduate as well as graduate students. Although most teaching will be in the classroom, there is an increasing expectation for introducing undergraduates to research as well. Service, although a small part of our expectations, includes committee work and similar sharing of department and university administrative duties, as well as participation in professional societies. Candidates should value working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
Kansas State University: The University (http://www.ksu.edu/) has approximately 24,000 students, including nearly 2500 graduate students, housed in 9 colleges with major strengths in the basic sciences, agriculture, engineering, and veterinary medicine, with extramural sponsored research awards of about $150 million. The University is aggressively implementing a plan to be nationally recognized as a top 50 public research university by 2025. In conjunction with this plan, the Department of Geology is hoping to initiate a doctoral program in the near future.Opportunities for collaboration within the university are many and varied. The chosen candidate will have the chance to work with the latest remote sensing technology. Woolpert, Inc. is seeking an Aerial Acquisition Operator in our Dayton, Ohio office to be part of our highly successful flight crew team. The chosen candidate will have the chance to work with the latest remote sensing technology. This position requires and AA/ASin Eng., GIS, Geography, or related field and two (2) years related experience or four (4) years related experience. Previous GIS, Photogrammetry and GPS surveying experience a plus.
Successful candidate will have the opportunity to train in a variety of skill set areas, including GPS surveying, airborne trajectory processing, and remote sensing utilizing aerial film, digital imaging and LiDAR sensors. Frequent travel, willingness/ability to work on-board a twin-engine aircraft are required.
Candidates must be flexible to work weekends, holidays and as needed. Position requires data acquisition for classified areas, therefore candidates must have U.S. citizenship to obtain a secret level security clearance.

GeoCorps Positions Now Available for Fall/Winter 2011-2012!
Interested in doing geoscience in some of America’s most beautiful public lands?
The Geological Society of America (GSA) has posted thirteen new GeoCorps America positions for fall/winter 2011-2012 on the GeoCorps website! Applications can be submitted online from now through July 1, 2011.
Once again, GeoCorps features paid geoscience internships in some of America’s most amazing public lands, which are managed by our partner agencies—the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. This round of projects features some of the nation's premier parks, such as Grand Canyon National Park (AZ), Grand Teton National Park (WY), Yosemite National Park (CA), and Death Valley National Park (CA). It also includes some extremely remote, wild places, like Kenai Fjords National Park (AK) and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve (AK), as well as sites closer to an urban setting, such as Catoctin Mountain Park (MD), and Golden Gate National Recreation Area (CA). GeoCorps project areas cover a broad range of subjects, including geology, hydrology, paleontology, mapping , GIS (Geographic Information Systems), minerals, soils, glaciology, geo-hazards, cave/karst science, education, and interpretation.
Benefits
These temporary, paid internships provide on-the-ground geoscience experience and include a $2,750 stipend, free housing (or a housing allowance), and in some cases, a travel allowance.
Eligibility
Geoscientists of all levels are eligible to apply. This includes, but is not limited to, undergraduate students, graduate students, post-docs, professionals, faculty members, teachers, and retirees. Past GeoCorps participants are eligible to apply for any of the “Guest Scientist” positions available this season.

* Evaluates geological data for evaluation of lease sale, farm-in and farm-out opportunities.

* Generates maps of various parameters, detailing structure, net sand, net pay thickness, and petrophysical parameters.
* Determines the petrophysical characteristics of well logs.
* An understanding of use and application of Sequence Stratigraphy to the exploration effort
* Mange the Exploration Portfolio updating and changing as needed
* Understand and apply exploration risk analysis principals
* Apply computer mapping techniques through the use of various geologic software packages
* Must abide by all QHSE policies and guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ten years related experience with at least 5 years in the deep water Gulf of Mexico
